The meter you receive
This listing is the current Leica DISTO D5, the rechargeable model with the color screen. It is not the older D5 that took AA batteries, and it is not the shorter-range DISTO D2.
Leica rates favorable conditions at 1.0 mm accuracy and a range of 0.05 m to 200 m (660 ft). Unfavorable conditions are 2.0 mm and a range out to 120 m (400 ft). Favorable means a white diffuse target, low background light, and moderate temperature. Bright sun, a dark target, or temperatures near the operating limits shorten the range. The smallest displayed unit is 0.1 mm.
The pointfinder is a 2.4-inch IPS screen with 4x zoom. You can trigger a measurement with a gesture, so pressing the button does not shove the dot off the target. It stores 50 measurements. Tilt covers 360°, with a stated tolerance of ±0.2° after you calibrate it. Bluetooth 5.0 reaches about 10 m and can type readings into an app, including DISTO Plan. The laser is class 2, 635 nm, under 1 mW. Do not stare into the beam.
The body is 144 × 60 × 24 mm (5.67 × 2.2 × 0.94 in) and 180 g (6.35 oz) with the battery. Protection is IP54, dust and splashes. It is not for immersion. The battery is a 3.7 V, 2,000 mAh Li-ion pack, rated up to 5,000 measurements or about 10 hours, and a charge is about 3 hours at 5 V / 1 A. Operating range is −10°C to 55°C (14°F to 131°F).
In the box: the D5, a hand loop, a pouch, a USB cable, safety instructions, a silver calibration certificate, a quick start, and a 3-year warranty card. A tripod, a target plate, and an adapter are sold separately.
