The station you receive
This is the Tempest personal weather station. The outdoor sensor is solar powered, with an onboard battery. Tempest says that battery is replaceable on Tempest 26 models. Wind is ultrasonic and rain is haptic, so there is no cup or tipping bucket to jam. There is no display on the sensor. Readings show in the free Tempest app for iOS and Android, or in a browser at tempestwx.com.
The hub in the box joins a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. A 5 GHz-only network will not connect it. Tempest does not charge a subscription for the data, the forecast, or the app. The forecast uses observations from the station. Tempest says that local advantage shows up about 60 days after you install it.
Reported readings include temperature, humidity, dew point, heat index, wind chill, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, lightning, rain, UV index, solar radiation, air density, wet-bulb temperature, and Delta-T. It can talk to Alexa, Siri, IFTTT, and Rachio. Those services are separate from this purchase.
In the box: the Tempest sensor, the Wi-Fi hub, a flat base, and a pole mount. The warranty is 2 years and is for personal home use. Tempest says commercial use voids that warranty.
